What’s a Healthy Fish Oil Intake Amount to Have Daily?

When it comes to a daily fish oil intake level, many factors come into play. What is more important though than the actual amount you take is the quality of the oil itself. However much of a poor quality supplement you take, you will still receive little or no health benefits. Here’s how to avoid that.

As a rough guide, 1 or 2g a day is a good of a pure distilled oil, but it’s important to bear in mind the levels of omega 3 fats within the oil as these are the ones that provide all the benefits.

DHA and EPA are the two most effective ones with DHA recently being shown to provide most of the health benefits, so the first thing is to look at the individual amounts.

For example my fish oil intake is two capsules a day, each one containing 1000mg of oil of which 280mg is DHA and 120mg is EPA, so I get almost 1000mg or 1g of omega 3 a day.

You will find that most oils have a much lower level of DHA so it pays to find the ones with a 2:1 ratio of DHA to EPA otherwise you will not get the full benefits, especially where brain and heart health are concerned.

A quality oil will be molecularly distilled to remove the toxins from the fish unless it is proven to be completely free from any contamination. The only one today to have that distinction is the Hoki fish from New Zealand as the waters are still pristine.

Although it is not really possible to overdose on fish oil, there is little benefit in taking very high does which I have seen some companies advertise, like 10,000mg. After a certain point, the body has enough omega 3 and cannot use the rest so unless you have a serious pre-existing condition like heart disease or severe arthritis, the daily fish oil intake that I have shown is enough.

If you do have a severe condition then doubling the dose I have shown to 4 capsules a day should be enough.

So as you can see, many factors can influence the potential health benefits from this wonderful oil, with the daily fish oil intake being just one of them.

Omega 3 For Depression – Learn How To Select The Best Omega 3 Fish Oils For Treating Depression

When it comes to using omega 3 for depression, much research has been carried out and even more is on-going in this area that’s been the cause of much excitement in the scientific community. Taking a daily fish oil really helps to lift depression, but it’s essential to know what specifically to look for otherwise you may get no benefits at all.

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for the healthy formation of the brain’s nerve cell membranes, and when a person is lacking in them, as over 90% of us are, changes in the membrane can affect mood, behavior and mental function.

Over 30% of an adult brain is made up of DHA omega 3 fats so it comes as no surprise just how influential these fatty acids are, especially as the human body cannot manufacture them.

Omega 3 for depression can help with other aspects of mental health like schizophrenia, alleviating the symptoms by as much as twenty-five percent according to the latest studies.

In addition they help to prevent heart disease and strokes, lower high blood pressure, boost the immune system and treat arthritis to name a few.

To get the maximum rewards, any fish oil supplement you choose must have high levels of the most important fatty acid – DHA. You will discover if you haven’t already, that most contain more EPA as it’s cheaper to make but robs you of many of the health benefits.

Look to get at least a minimum of 250mg of DHA per individual capsule or soft gel.

You also want to make sure you don’t ingest any toxins or poisons from the fish so molecularly distilled oil will have all of them removed for concentrated, purer and safer oil.

The sheer range of benefits that this natural substance provides makes it one of the most powerful in nature with little or no side effects from a quality oil, and you can really help to improve your sense of well-being and reduce mood swings using omega 3 for depression.

Omega 3 And Brain Development – Does It Really Help?

Omega 3 and Brain
Use it or lose it. This is what experts say about our brain. The more we use it and keep it active, the better it will perform and will remain healthy. But did you know there is something else too that is very effective at ensuring your brain’s health and well being?

Omega 3 and brain health are very closely linked. Numerous studies have proven that increasing the intake of omega 3 fats helps in improving memory and focus, benefits cognitive function and the nerve transmission process.

Omega 3 also helps in preventing Alzheimer’s disease. In children, lower levels of these fats have been linked with a lower IQ, aggression, ADHD and dyslexia.

Increasing omega 3 intake helps increase the serotonin levels in the brain and keeps depression at bay.

In short, taking more of these fats is the best thing you can do to keep your brain running in top form.

Now let’s find out what is the best source of this nutrient.

Flax seed oil is one source of omega 3 fats. It contains ALA fat inside. ALA is internally converted by our body into DHA and EPA fats and then it is able to derive the health benefits from it. This is not an efficient process and only about 5% to 25% fat is able to get converted.

It makes sense then to directly focus our efforts to take DHA and EPA fats through our diet.

Fish like Salmon, Mackerel and Hoki are amongst the best sources of these two fats. In case you’re wondering, the Hoki is a fish found in the pristine waters of the southern coast of New Zealand.

It contains high quantities of DHA and EPA and is free from any contaminants too due to the clean ocean waters there.

One option of taking these fats is to directly eat these fish as a part of your regular diet. This is easier said than done as not only would it quickly become monotonous, but expensive too.

A much easier option to get omega 3 and brain benefits is to take a fish oil supplement derived from these DHA rich fish. In less than the cost of one meal of fish, you can get a month’s supply of the supplement.

Your next step? To take what you’ve learned and get omega 3 and brain benefits from the right fish oil. Visit my website for more information.
