<p>It is probably too late for me to get off them now, however changing to a superior brand of fish oil supplements 6 months ago has helped reduce both my blood pressure and cholesterol level a little bit.</p>
<p>It is pretty much beyond doubt omega-3 DHA and EPA fatty acids benefit your body and mind in many ways.</p>
<p>None more so than by helping to improve arterial health by reducing triglycerides and balancing HDL and LDL cholesterol better. Naturally having an improved blood flow reduces our risk of getting blood clots from clogged arteries that can result in a heart attack or stroke.</p>
<p>Arguably the best way to get more fish oil in your diet is to eat oily fish 2 to 3 times a week.</p>
<p>Unfortunately this solution usually turns out to be easier said than done, we start out with good intentions of buying fresh fish each week but often don&#8217;t get around to it. <p>The quality of oils varies amongst producers and you should look for those who use ultra refined fish oil as this is considered the best.</p>
<p>Choosing one&#8217;s that have undergone a process of molecular distillation means that many of the contaminants have been reduced or removed. That&#8217;s a real worry for some, as we&#8217;re well aware of the fact that many fish stocks are harvested from polluted areas of our oceans.</p>
<p>This last point is one that catches out many buyers. It has to do with the price of the product, how many pills it contains and the dosage. After all, just because it has numerous health benefits for adults doesn&#8217;t mean children should take supplements too. But there is good news about fish oil for kids – particularly if they suffer from ADHD.</p>
<p>First of all, recent studies have shown that an increased intake of the omega 3 fatty acids contained in fish oil can be of great benefit to unborn babies and young children. Omega 3s are essential for the growth and development of the brain and eyes in babies.</p>
<p>Taking omega 3s during pregnancy can reduce the risk of having a pre-term baby. Also, the children of mothers who eat the most fish tend to have higher intelligence scores and better communication skills.</p>
<p>So the benefits for mothers and babies are clear but what about fish oil for kids themselves?</p>
<p>It has been known for some time that the most important fatty acid, DHA, helps brains to function and develop properly.</p>
<p>It now seems that children who have low levels of DHA tend to be more likely to suffer from ADHD.</p>
<p>A 2005 Australian study showed that children with diagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who took supplements for 15 weeks had increased attention and reduced hyperactivity, restlessness and impulsivity. The children also performed better on attention tests and improved their vocabulary.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you read about this recently?  There are many omega3 sources, although the one that always comes to mind first is fish.  Doctors and nutritionists have been telling people for years that if they want to be heart healthy, then they have to add a regular weekly rotation of fish to their diet.  That may have been a good idea at one point in time, but it is not advisable to eat large quantities of fish now.</p>
<p>The most recommended of the “oily” fish have always been salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and albacore tuna.  These fish are all considered to be “predator” species, since they feed upon other species of fish smaller than themselves.  With all of the contamination that is now present in just about every body of water in the world, being higher up on the food chain causes some problems.</p>
<p>Even the smallest fish take in measureable amounts of toxins throughout their lives, but it seems as though when one fish feeds on another the feeding fish accumulates all of the toxins absorbed by their prey.  These larger omega3 sources tend to store high levels of lead, mercury, dioxins, PCBs, and furans.  Large predators such as sharks contain mercury levels so high that they are virtually toxic.</p>
<p>The reason that eating these fish is dangerous is that there is no way to control the level of toxicity.  If you are going to eat fish, then make sure that you are getting them from the cleanest bodies or regions of water possible.  You would rather eat wild Pacific Salmon for example than you would salmon caught in the more heavily polluted Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p>Encapsulated over the counter omega3 sources are a far better bet in order for you to ensure that the fish oil that you are ingesting is pure.  The manufacturers of dietary fish oil supplements use a method of molecular distillation that reduces any present toxins to below measurable levels.  So with fish oil capsules you never need worry about the dangers of mercury or lead poisoning.</p>
<p>Most of the other sources for omega fatty acids are heavy in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is good, but they are not good sources for either docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).  Both DHA and EPA offer you far more benefits than any of the other omega fatty acids, so they are the ones that you need to be specifically concerned about getting.</p>
<p>Other than the level of purity that can be obtained encapsulated dietary omega3 sources are advisable because they can also offer you the correct balance of crucial omega fatty acids.  For example, in fish you are mostly getting EPA, with just a small amount of DHA.  In balanced nutritional supplements however, you are able to get more than twice as much DHA as EPA.</p>
<p>Make no mistake about it.  You need this sort of balance from your omega3 sources if you are going to enjoy the cardiovascular benefits, and improved brain function that these essential fatty acids offer.  Don’t endanger yourself with toxins, or leave the amount of DHA you are getting to chance.  Start taking a  balanced fish oil supplement today, and ensure yourself the good health that you deserve.</p>
