Herpes simplex

Would you believe herpes gladiotorum? No, it is not another form of herpes. It is the same herpes simplex that may give you a cold sore or worse, plague you with painful genital herpes. Apparently herpes is so common among wrestlers, they have their own name for it. This is because of the unclothed, close proximity of wrestlers during matches and the ease by which the virus is transmitted. The virus from on wrestler’s cold sore may enter a cut or mat burn on another players body.

Herpes simplex causes both genital sores and mouth sores (commonly referred to as fever blisters or cold sores). What t is important to realize is that they are interchangeable. Open sores of the mouth can be transmitted to the genitals. Therefore, genital herpes is not always sexually transmitted, and to call it a venereal disease would be incorrect.

The fact is, during a primary, or the very first attack of herpes simplex it is possible for infected persons to spread the disease to other pats of their own body- from their mouth, for example, to their eyes, fingertips or genitals. An interesting statistic exemplifies this. According to the 88 book Scientific American medicine, genital herpes was found in three percent of nuns.

Kissing is the most obvious means of transmitting cold sores, but not the only one. And the mouth is not the only area that can be infected. Doctors and dentists can acquire herpes withlow (herpes simplex infections of the fingers) from contact with the infected saliva of their patients.

When doctors talk about herpes simplex 1 versus herpes simplex 2, they are not differentiating between two different viruses, they are identifying on which part of the body it manifests itself, Herpes simplex 1 is the cold sore, and herpes simplex 2 is genital herpes.

The bad news is that once you are infected with herpes simplex, it is incorporated into you DNA, and cannot be cured. You do not know hen, for how long, and how bad an outbreak will occur. The key is preventing the outbreaks. The good news is that researchers have identified nutrients that can inhibit the virus and prevent it from causing infectious sores.
